The Journal of Surgical Radiology relies on its Editors to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity, scientific quality, and ethical publishing. These guidelines define the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of Editors associated with the journal.
- Role of Editors
Editors are responsible for:
- Maintaining the scientific quality and credibility of the journal
- Managing the peer-review process fairly and efficiently
- Making independent, unbiased editorial decisions
- Upholding ethical standards in publishing
Editors act as stewards of the academic record.
- Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions must be:
- Based solely on scholarly merit, originality, clarity, and relevance
- Free from influence by commercial, political, or personal interests
The Editor-in-Chief has final authority over editorial decisions.
- Manuscript Handling Responsibilities
Editors are expected to:
- Conduct an initial assessment (scope, quality, ethics, plagiarism)
- Assign qualified and impartial reviewers
- Monitor timely completion of peer reviews
- Evaluate reviewer reports objectively
- Communicate decisions clearly to authors
Possible decisions include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.
- Peer Review Oversight
Editors must ensure that:
- Peer review is double-blind (unless stated otherwise)
- Reviewers have appropriate subject expertise
- Reviewer comments are constructive and professional
- Confidentiality of manuscripts and reviews is maintained
Editors may reject submissions without external review if they are out of scope or ethically problematic.
- Ethical Responsibilities
Editors must be vigilant regarding:
- Plagiarism and duplicate publication
- Data fabrication or falsification
- Improper authorship or undisclosed conflicts of interest
- Ethical approval and patient consent in clinical studies
When misconduct is suspected, Editors should follow established publication-ethics procedures and consult the Editor-in-Chief.

Editors must:
- Declare any conflicts of interest related to submitted manuscripts
- Recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where a conflict exists
- Avoid editorial decisions involving close collaborators, institutions, or personal relationships
Transparency is mandatory.
- Confidentiality
Editors must:
- Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents
- Not disclose manuscript content to unauthorized individuals
- Not use unpublished material for personal research or advantage
- Communication with Authors and Reviewers
Editors should:
- Communicate decisions respectfully and clearly
- Ensure reviewer feedback is professional and relevant
- Avoid personal criticism of authors

- Editorial Board Responsibilities
Editorial Board members are expected to:
- Review manuscripts within their expertise

- Maintain active engagement with the journal
- Retractions, Corrections, and Expressions of Concern
Editors are responsible for:
- Initiating corrections when errors are identified
- Recommending retractions in cases of serious misconduct
- Issuing expressions of concern when investigations are ongoing
The integrity of the scholarly record must be preserved.
- Use of AI and Editorial Tools
Editors may use editorial tools (including plagiarism-detection software) responsibly. Editorial judgment must remain human-led, transparent, and accountable.
- Termination or Change of Editorial Role
The journal reserves the right to:
- Modify editorial roles
- Discontinue editorial appointments for inactivity or misconduct
Editors may also resign by providing formal notice to the Editor-in-Chief.
